The Honda Gold Wing GL1800 was a huge update to the earlier Gold Wing, the GL1500. So there seems to be no reason they can't both run the same brand oil and filter. This is the maintenance schedule and associated service intervals for the Honda Gold Wing GL1800, otherwise known as the “5th gen” Gold Wing. The fact is my Magna and Wing have both the same oil requirements, wet clutch setup, and even use the exact same oil filter, which as far as I can tell ( I may be wrong) Honda doesn't have a spec on. Honda parts are hard to come by out by me and the 2 dealers in Tucson have ridiculous markups. I would rather not spend extra money on something just because it has Honda's name on it. That being said I only asked what everyone else is using, if everyone is using Honda branded parts/oils thats ok with me. So using it wouldn't go against what Honda calls out for.
The manual calls out for oil that meets or exceeds JASO T 903 MA, which if you look it up Shell Rotella T6 and T does meet that standard. No where in the manual does it say you have to use GN4 oil. all good info here but I'd say first you need to read your owners manual.Hmmm, I must have hit a nerve. they ask questions with their ears and eyes closed. I renewed it when it expired and am getting my money's worth again now.Īll the frequent visits also allowed me to establish a friendship with their outstanding Honda Goldwing tech and friendly relationships with other dealer staff and employees.
I broke even after the first year and a couple of months and the remainder of the three year contract provided free service. The prepaid maintenance agreement has really been a bargain for me. Following the Honda prescribed service schedule with oil and filter changes every 4k miles, brake and clutch fluid changes, final drive oil changes, and air filter changes every 12k, spark plugs replaced at 16k, coolant change every 24k, and hundreds of small inspections at each visit the parts and labor hours add up quickly at Honda dealership prices. After I bought the yellow Wing I was quickly overcome by a powerful addiction to Goldwing touring and began quickly racking up miles. It was $1499 for three years, unlimited miles. I use nothing but Honda branded oil and filters as well as all other Honda parts for all other service.Īctually I purchased a service contract from the Lubbock dealer soon after I bought my yellow Wing in early 2011.
